Fresh turf rolls give you an instant lawn with a neat, natural finish, and this Sherborne Turf roll covers 1 square metre per roll. Grown for around 18 months and cut to order, this plastic-free lawn turf roll is a strong choice for new lawns, garden repairs, landscaping projects and full lawn replacements.

We cut all of our turf to order to maintain the best possible quality. Please note: if you are hoping to pop in and pick some up, we usually cut a number of extra rolls in order to have some spare each day - but it is always a good idea to phone ahead to avoid disappointment*

  • Each turf roll measures approximately 170cmx59cm or 67"x23.2"
  • Therefore each roll  covers 1 square metre
  • The turf has a soil bed of approximately 1 inch
  • Our turf is plastic free!

When measuring please allow for 5-10% wastage. If you are having problems working out the area required for topsoil's and turf please try our calculator or call the office and we will be happy to help.

For best results we recommend spraying off the old lawn or ground 2 weeks prior to laying using Weedol Rapid Weed Control. Then rotovate or dig over the soil and remove any large stones, a potato fork is really useful here. If you need to make up levels we would recommend using our 10mm screened general purpose topsoil. Next, use a 16P Chelwood rake to move and grade the soil and light press to consolidate. Then use our balanced Stripy Green granular fertiliser at 35grams per square metre underneath the turf to aid root establishment when laying your new lawn. Cutting the turf needn't be a struggle, why not try our turf cutting saw

If laying turf on a steep slope you will need to peg down the corners using our biodegradable turf pegs (they come in a choice of lengths which will depend on the ground conditions - call us for more advise on this if required).

Why choose this turf roll?

Sherborne Turf per roll is designed for customers who want a fresh, established and easy-to-lay product. This roll of grass turf is grown for longer to help create a denser, healthier lawn surface once laid and watered in properly.

Sherborne Turf is made from a carefully selected seed blend that supports colour, durability and lawn performance. The mix includes perennial ryegrass, chewings fescue, slender creeping red fescue, strong creeping red fescue and smooth stalked meadow grass, making it suitable for a wide range of domestic and landscaping uses.

Cut-to-order supply also helps maintain quality. Freshly cut grass turf rolls are easier to handle, easier to establish and better suited to customers who want their new lawn to settle quickly.

What is included in each roll?

Each turf roll measures approximately 170cm x 59cm, which means each roll covers 1 square metre. The turf is supplied with a soil bed of around 1 inch, giving you a practical and well-established product for laying onto prepared ground.

Product details matter when you are planning a lawn project. Clear dimensions make it easier to calculate how many turf rolls you need, whether you are repairing a small patch or ordering multiple rolls of turf for a full garden.

Plastic-free construction is another key benefit. Sherborne Turf is grown without plastic netting, which gives you a more natural product and avoids leaving plastic mesh in the ground.

Where can these lawn turf rolls be used?

Lawn turf rolls work well for a wide range of garden and landscape projects. This product suits front lawns, back gardens, family spaces, lawn replacement jobs, new-build gardens and professional landscaping work where a quick, tidy finish is needed.

Garden repairs are one of the most common uses for this product. Patchy grass, worn sections and tired lawns can all be improved with fresh turf rolls that match the look of a healthy natural lawn.

Landscaping projects also benefit from ready-to-lay turf. Patios, pathways, borders, raised beds and seating areas all look more complete when the surrounding lawn is finished with quality rolls of turf.

How many rolls of turf do you need?

Turf quantity should be based on the square metre area you want to cover, plus a small allowance for cutting and shaping. Each roll covers 1m², so the calculation is straightforward for most garden spaces.

Measurement accuracy helps avoid delays. Curves, awkward edges, tree bases, drains and border lines often create offcuts, which is why it is best to allow 5% to 10% extra for wastage.

Sherborne Turf can support customers who are unsure about quantities. If you are working out the area for topsoil and lawn turf rolls, using a turf calculator or speaking to the office can help you order the right amount first time.

How should you prepare the ground before laying turf?

Ground preparation gives your new lawn the best possible start. Old grass and weeds should be cleared first, and the soil should then be dug over or rotovated so the new turf can root into a clean, workable surface.

Weed control is worth doing in advance. For best results, the old lawn or ground should be sprayed off around 2 weeks before laying, then dug over thoroughly once the area is ready for preparation.

Stone removal also improves the finish. Large stones and debris should be taken out so the lawn surface can sit more evenly and establish without obstruction below the turf.

Level correction may also be needed before laying. Where levels need building up or improving, screened general purpose topsoil is a suitable option for creating a better lawn base.

What helps create a smoother lawn finish?

Soil grading helps create a neater, more professional result. A rake can be used to move and level the soil, and the ground should then be lightly firmed so the surface is stable without becoming heavily compacted.

Fertiliser support can also improve root establishment. A balanced granular fertiliser applied underneath the turf at 35 grams per square metre helps feed the new lawn as it starts to root into the soil below.

Cutting tools make fitting easier around edges and shapes. A turf cutting saw can help trim lawn turf rolls neatly around borders, corners and unusual garden features.

What should you do when laying turf on a slope?

Slope installation needs extra support to keep the turf in place while it establishes. Turf laid on a steep slope should be pegged down at the corners so the rolls stay secure during the early rooting period.

Biodegradable turf pegs are a practical option for this type of job. Peg length will depend on the ground conditions, so steeper or looser ground may need longer pegs for a better hold.

Surface stability matters more on sloping ground. Fresh rolls of turf can move more easily before rooting, which is why pegging is recommended where the angle of the site creates a slipping risk.

How soon should you lay grass turf rolls after delivery or collection?

Fresh grass turf rolls should be laid as soon as possible after delivery or collection. Turf is a living product, so quicker laying helps protect freshness, reduce heat build-up inside the roll and improve the chance of strong early establishment.

Timing matters even more in warm weather. Hot and dry conditions can draw moisture out of the turf quickly, which means delays can affect both appearance and rooting performance.

Site readiness makes the process easier. Ground preparation, tools, access and watering equipment should all be organised before the turf arrives so the rolls can go straight onto the prepared soil.

How should you care for turf in hot and dry conditions?

Hot and dry weather means turf needs prompt laying and steady watering. The grass should be laid as soon as possible, then kept well watered during the first few weeks so the roots can move into the soil below.

Moisture control is the main priority in these conditions. Dry air, sunlight and wind can all pull water out of the turf quickly, which is why regular watering should begin straight after laying.

Sprinkler coverage can make lawn care easier on larger areas. An oscillating sprinkler is a simple option for watering newly laid turf across wider garden spaces while helping keep the surface evenly moist.
